The Goodhue Volenteers, were said to have stayed in the American House in St. Paul on their way to Fort Snelling from Red Wing on Saturday night.

The men wrapped themselves in their blankets , quilt and robes  that they had brought with them from Red Wing.  They slept on chairs on the floor and anywhere they could find a place to sleep..
