The Northern Belle is just one of the many steamboats that were used to carry thousands of troops in the Civil War.
The 1st Minnesota Regiment left Fort Snelling on the War Eagle and Northern Belle. The two boats carried over 1,000 troops between them.
The Goodhue Volunteers were on the Northern Belle.
As the two steamers made their way down the river, they made one last stop along the way at the river towns that had companies aboard the boats. Among the towns siad to have had boats stop at them were Hasting, Red Wing, Wabasha and Winnona.
