Vol. Inf. during the Dakota Conflict of 1862. He was Major of the 4th Minn. Vol. Inf.. He was  Wounded again in the Siege of Vicksburg. He died in Nashville Tennessee  on February 1st, 1864 . He was the son of a judge.

Age 20. Mustered in April 29th, 1861. He was a Corp., Serg. and 1st Serg. He was Killed  on July 3rd, 1863 at Gettysburg. He was said to have been struck by four  bullets.He was buried that evening in a shallow grave under a Walnut tree.
